Frequently Asked Questions

We understand you might still have a lot of questions, we are here to help!

Is it normal to feel nervous about getting my period?

Yes! Everyone’s first period feels a little different, and it’s okay to feel unsure. Over time, you’ll figure out what works best for you!

How often should I change my pad or tampon?

Usually every 3–4 hours, or sooner if it feels full. This keeps you feeling fresh, comfortable, and healthy.

What if I leak at school or in public?

It happens to everyone! Carrying an extra pad and underwear in your bag helps you feel ready. And hey — that’s why Red Ready exists, so you always have a backup 😉

Can I still play sports or swim on my period?

Yes! With the right product (like tampons, pads, or period underwear), you can keep doing all the things you love.

Who can I talk to if I’m worried about my period?

A parent, trusted adult, teacher, or health professional. You’re never alone — there’s always someone to listen and help.

When will I get my first period?

Most people get their period between ages 9–15, but everyone is different. If you haven’t by 16, check in with a doctor.

How long does a period last?

Usually between 3–7 days. Some months might be shorter or longer — that’s normal while your body adjusts.

Is it normal to have cramps?

Yes, cramps are very common. A heating pad, gentle stretching, or ibuprofen can help. If they’re super painful, it’s best to talk to a healthcare provider.

What if my cycle is irregular?

That’s very normal in the first couple of years. Skipping a month or having cycles that aren’t the same length is part of your body figuring things out.

Can people tell when I’m on my period?

Nope! Unless you decide to tell them, no one will know.

What’s the difference between pads, tampons, and period underwear?

Pads stick to your underwear, tampons are worn inside, and period underwear looks like regular underwear but absorbs flow. It’s all about what feels right for you.

What if I get my period at school and don’t have supplies?

Ask a teacher, friend, or the school nurse (if your school has one) — many schools keep extra pads on hand or in the bathrooms. It happens to everyone! And remember, Red Ready was made to save the day in moments just like this!

🌿 Natural & Sensitive Options – FAQ

If plastics, fragrances, or chemicals worry you, we’ve got you covered!

What if pads make me itchy?

Sometimes it’s because your skin is sensitive to the plastic or perfumes in certain pads. Don’t worry — you can try natural pads made from organic cotton or ones that don’t have added fragrances.

Are natural pads or tampons better?

Not always “better,” just different! Natural ones are made without dyes, chlorine, or perfumes, which can be gentler if you have sensitive skin. Regular pads and tampons are safe too — it’s all about what feels most comfortable for you.

What are plastic-free options?

Some pads and liners are made with plant-based materials instead of plastic. They work the same way but may feel softer and are better for the planet.

Can I use reusable products like period underwear or cups?

Yes! Period underwear, cloth pads, and menstrual cups are reusable, eco-friendly, and good for sensitive skin. But the cups take a little practice (and are more for older girls), so don’t feel pressured — you can try them when you’re ready.

What about wipes and washes?

Always choose gentle, fragrance-free wipes if you need them. Perfumes can sometimes irritate your skin.

Are reusable products sanitary?

Definitely. As long as you wash period underwear or cloth pads properly, or clean a menstrual cup with gentle soap and water, they’re safe to use — and can save money long-term.

Do natural products work as well as regular products?

Yes! They absorb the same way as regular products. Sometimes they feel a little different, so it’s all about what works best for you.

Will Red Ready™ have natural product kits in the future?

Yes! We’re working on adding a natural and sensitive skin–friendly version of our kits so everyone can find a fit that feels right for them. Stay tuned for updates!

Can period products affect my health?

Most pads and tampons are safe to use. But some studies found that certain products can have tiny amounts of chemicals (like plastics, dyes, or fragrances) that may affect our bodies if we’re exposed to a lot over time.

If you have sensitive skin or just want a gentler option, there are natural and organic pads and tampons made without dyes, perfumes, or chlorine. Red Ready™ will also be offering a Natural Kit in the future so you can choose what feels best for you.

📌 Parent note: Research shows menstrual products may contain low levels of chemicals that could impact hormone health (see: PubMed, 2023).
